I start with a fresh WordPress install and I go through these important steps:
1. Deleting all the Unnecessary Content
WordPress starts with some default content that nobody wants, so let’s delete it.
2. Installing Minimalio Theme and Premium Plugin
There is no WordPress website without a theme, so the first important step is to install the theme, of course, I use Minimalio. And to make it better, I also install the Premium plugin. Here is a more thorough tutorial on How to install the theme and the plugin.
3. Installing Necessary Plugins – Security Mainly
It’s absolutely essential, that you install the security plugin. There are other plugins that I consider very useful, here is a more detailed article on Necessary WordPress plugins.
4. Creating the Pages – Portfolio Page and About me Page
You need content on your website, so I quickly create the portfolio page and the about me page. Here is a thorough tutorial on portfolio page and if you are not familiar with the default WordPress editor – Gutenberg, please check out the Gutenberg tutorial.
5. Creating Single Portfolios
After the pages, I have created a single portfolio, you can find more about that in the Single Portfolio tutorial.
6. Setting up the Primary Menu
Of course, we want to have a main menu.
7. Setting the Design and Functionality in the Theme Options
I wanted to achieve the design from the Nicole Demo, so I changed the colors, fonts, portfolio style, mobile menu and more.
8. Creating a Backup and Setting up the SEO
To sleep well, I have created a backup of the whole website with the Duplicator plugin and I have set up the SEO, so how will the website look when it shows in Google, you can find out more about that in the SEO RankMath tutorial.
